Parish Councillors are elected by the community to decide how the council should carry out its various activities. They represent public interests as well as individuals living within the village.  Danbury Parish Councillors do not receive any form of financial allowance.

Councillors – Declaration of Interests
Once elected or co-opted, members of the Council are required to complete a declaration of interest form, the details of which are published and reviewed regularly.  Copies of these forms can be found on the Chelmsford City Council website

Support and Training
Parish Councillors are offered support and training, both from Parish Council officers and from sector bodies such as the National Association of Local Councils and the Essex Association of Local Councils.

Code of Conduct
All Parish Councillors must agree to abide by the Code of Conduct, which is focused on the Nolan Principles for public life.

Elections
Parish Councillors are elected every four years. The most recent parish council elections took place on 4 May, 2023.  The next scheduled Parish Council elections will be in May 2027.

You can stand for election as a Parish Councillor if you are a British, Commonwealth or European citizen aged 18 or over and meet any one of the following criteria:

  • are on the electoral roll for the parish
  • have lived in the parish, or within 3 miles, for the previous 12 months
  • have occupied land or premises in the parish for the previous 12 months
  • main place of work is within the parish
